Qualifications

Elite Dancer – Amateur Instructor Qualifications

Only the elite dancer who qualifies at the Canadian Closed Amateur Championship and meets the following requirements is allowed to be licensed as an amateur instructor.

1. (a).  At least eighteen (18) years of age.

     (b)  Is a member in good standing of his or her Regional Amateur Association and is registered in the Canadian Registry of Amateur Dancers (CRAD).

     (c) Qualifies according to the competition rules of his or her Regional association to compete at the Championship level in that region and has competed at the Championship level for a minimum of two (2) years, or alternatively, qualifies at a level of competitive skill and accomplishment determined by the Board.

2.  (a)  Is a member of a couple who places in one of the following:

     (b)  Top three (3) places in Canadian Closed Amateur Youth Standard or Youth Latin Championships.

     (c)  Top three (3) places in Canadian Closed Amateur Senior I Standard or Latin Championships

      (d)   All Finalists, if a quarter final is held, in the Canadian Closed Adult Standard or Latin Championships. If a quarter final is not held then only the top three (3) qualify.

      (e)   Top two (2) places in Canadian Closed Adult 10 Dance Championships, if held.

OR

Makes the top 24 in an IDSF World Adult Standard or Latin Championship or top 12 in an IDSF World Adult 10 Dance Championship (does not include World Cup), takes a Canadian partner and fulfills the residency requirement in Rule 7.04 to represent Canada. Such couple must re-qualify pursuant to Rule 8.03k.

OR

Is a dancer who meets the requirements of #1 and who holds a valid and subsisting teaching certificate issued by the Ministry of Education of the Canadian Province in which he or she resides or in which he or she works as a school teacher.

The Amateur Instructor must also work under the guidance of a Professional Mentor. take the Amateur Instructor examination, re-qualify every year (or, at the maximum, every alternate year), and submit to CADA a yearly accounting of their teaching activities plus an accounting of how much they have earned and offset these earnings with dance related expenses.
