Conduct Guidelines and Helpful Hints for New DanceSport Instructors
Remember you are a representative for DanceSport Professionals.
Do not criticize other teachers or students.
Dress neatly. Do not be sloppy in dress or personal hygiene.
Do not monopolize the floor or music when others are teaching at the same time.
When demonstrating steps, do not intimidate students by showing off.
Be prepared, know the music and steps to be taught.
Go slowly, keep it fun. Do not shout or use negative criticism.
When conducting a class, be positive and enthusiastic
Do not make inappropriate remarks or single people out for criticism.
Be careful not to indulge in behaviour that may be considered in any way harassment, whether sexual or otherwise.
An easy way to instruct a class is to have two separate lines of male & female facing each other with the instructor(s) in between so students can copy.
Make sure everyone can see.
Once the students can do the step, try to music, slowly at first.
Partner the students and go over the step again and then to music.
Allow them to practice, move around class to help individual couples.
Your mentor is there to help you deal with any problems which may arise.
